来週はプレゼンがある。
某企業のWebサイトリニューアルプロジェクト。悲しいけどコンペ案件。
企画案はかなりいいものができたと思う。企画書を作ったのはよく一緒に仕事をするディレクターとのいわば共作。二人が違う視点から同じオリエンシートを読んですりあわせて作ったもの。これはうまくいった。
だけどデザイン案がうまくいかない。やばいです。しっくりこないのです。デザインカンプ制作は自分の責任範囲だから、誰に頼ることもできない。
ふつう、企画案づくりがうまくいったときは、デザイン案もたいていほぼ同時にどこかから降りてきて頭の中でイメージの芯が住みついて離れなくなる。デザインカンプ作成はそれをただFireworksを使って再現するだけ。イメージの芯を再現する過程では、いったんそこから離れるためにあえて寄り道してみたり、全く違うデザン案を作ってみたりもするけど、やっぱり腑に落ちない。
今日一日ずっといろんなWebサイトを渡り歩いて、何かの答えを探しているけど答えがみつかるはずはない。時間を浪費するためにムダに過ごしているだけだってことは自分でもわかっているけど止められない。
ミクシを漂ったり、Twitterしたり。現実逃避に走る…。
いままでこんなふうに袋小路な時はどうやって解決するか。正解はないかもしれないけど、かならずやっていることが五つあります。
- 1）トレースする。
- この案件の関連資料を全部読み返す。もう何度も読んだ資料や、企画草案、お客さんからもらった資料、会社案内、サービスツール類、打ち合わせのときのメモ。そういったものを全部もう一回読み込んで、思い出す。
- 2）人と話す。
- 全然関係ない人や家族、友だちと話す。相談っぽくならないようにアイディアが浮かばないことやクライアントの事業内容なんかをそれとなく話して、相手のリアクションをよーく観察する。
- 3）写真を見る。
- 写真集を眺める。とくにGetty imagesやamanaなどのストックフォトサービスのサイトで、関連したキーワードを元にあてどなく画像検索をよくやる。キーワードは例えば自動車メーカーなら「自動車」などあまりにも直接的なワードは選ばずにドライブ、スピード、加速度、流線型とちょっとずつ離れていくのがポイント。
- 4）とにかく手を動かす。
- Fireworksの白いドキュメントを用意して、なにも考えずに何かを作る。大きな全体像が見えていないのだから小さなグラフィックパーツやカラーチップを作ったりしているうちに全体の森がみえてくることも…。
- 5）しばらく別のことをする。
- いつまでも悩んだってしかたないから、きっぱり忘れてほかのことをする。リフレッシュすれば、きっとうまういく。
行き詰まった時は上から順番に実行していくのです。
特に1）の資料を精読作戦は効果てきめんです。ほとんど頭に入っているつもりでも、もう何度も読んだ書類ももう一度改めて読み返しながら、そのとき説明してくれやお客さんの補足説明を必死で思い出してメモ書きしていく。そして大事なことはその会議や打ち合わせのとき、「自分がどうどう思ったか」を思い出すのです。ここがポイントです。忘れてしまっていても、その前後の会話を思い出す努力をしているうちに、その時の自分の感情を思い出すことがあります。それをメモしていく。
これで大抵うまくいく、はずなんだけど。
このエントリーを書いている時点で、実は5）のステップまで来てしまっているわけで、言い換えれば別のことをしているのです。
4）と5）はホントは良い方法じゃない。バッドな解決方法。とくに5）の現実逃避は私の場合うまくいきません。ほかのことをしても気になって気がついたら仕事のことを考えている。息抜きができない性格は自覚しているので逃げずに向き合う方う道を選びます。
6番目以降の作戦もあるにはあるのですが、いままで実践してうまくいった試しがないので今日は書かな。それよりこれからどうしよう…。
